Easy, Fast, Secure: IDCheck Protects Against Fraud with a Simple QR Code  With account takeover fraud on the rise, credit unions that are part of the Shared Branching system are adding a new ID-proofing security when accessing your account in person at non-HOPE locations. This new fraud prevention measure allows us to make certain it’s YOU trying to access your account, not an imposter.  If you conduct a transaction at at a Shared Branch facility, staff at those locations can now identify and authenticate members with out-of-state IDs in the branch through a QR code and one-time passcode multi-factor authentication verification.  Here's how it works. - Scan the QR code that will be located in the shared branching locations or visit verify.coop.org.
- Select "Hope Credit Union" from the drop-down list.
- Enter your member number and the last four digits of your social security number.
- Upload a photo of your ID.
- Take a selfie.
This new security feature will be effective beginning May 1, 2025. We'll be sharing more information about what you need to know as we get closer to that date.Â

2025 Members Meeting: Celebrating 30 Years of HOPE  HOPE Credit Union’s 2025 Members Meeting brought together members, leaders, and advocates to reflect on the past year’s accomplishments and unveil ambitious plans for the future. The event was a powerful reminder of HOPE’s commitment to financial inclusion and economic empowerment across the Deep South.  HOPE Credit Union President Cassandra Williams highlighted efforts to close the homeownership gap. “We’ve transformed our mortgage department to better serve our members, increasing mortgage production and creating new pathways for renters to become homeowners,” said Williams. “Homeownership is the foundation of generational wealth, and we are committed to making it accessible to more families.”  HOPE Enterprise Corporation President Ed Sivak emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing HOPE’s mission. “None of our impact occurs in a vacuum. Through partnership and collaboration with mission-aligned allies, we deepen our impact not just here in Jackson - but also in under-resourced communities all over America,” said Sivak.  HOPE CEO Bill Bynum unveiled an ambitious economic transformation plan aimed at reshaping the Deep South. “We are embarking on the greatest economic transformation experiment of our time,” Bynum stated. “By 2035, our goal is to catalyze a thriving economic ecosystem that advances prosperity for families, communities, and everyday people.” The meeting also celebrated key achievements, including expanded financial services and increased investments in small businesses. Members elected new Hope Federal Credit Union Board of Directors members and engaged with leadership on future initiatives.  if you were not able to attend the meeting, you can see what you missed by visiting www.hopecu.org/2025membersmeeting to watch the video of this year’s event.

Empowering Women-Owned Businesses  During Women's History Month, we highlight our commitment to empowering women like Dreka Shevon.   At an early age, Dreka knew she belonged behind the camera. Despite the underrepresentation of Black women in the film industry, she remained steadfast in her ambition, ultimately launching Prime Stone Media to bring her creative vision to life.  To complete her feature film, Dreka secured a loan through HOPE, an organization dedicated to empowering entrepreneurs by providing financial resources and opportunities. With this support, she transformed her dreams into reality. Today, her work is showcased on BET, VH1, and Tubi, reaching diverse audiences and amplifying powerful narratives.  “Filmmaking isn’t just my job; it’s my passion,” Dreka shares. “Thanks to HOPE, I can continue fueling that passion and empowering others through storytelling.”  HOPE’s dedication to empowering women like Dreka goes far beyond providing financial support. By offering access to capital, HOPE helps women entrepreneurs break through barriers, scale their businesses, and turn their visions into reality. Whether in business or other ventures, HOPE ensures women have the financial backing they need to succeed.  Click here to read more inspiring stories like Dreka’s!Â

Dollars and Sense: A Blueprint for Prioritizing Bills
Seeking a practical yet compassionate way to manage your bills when money is tight? Taking a structured approach to help you stay afloat during financial challenges can help keep you from feeling overwhelmed when expenses pile up, and having a clear plan can bring peace of mind and stability.  Prioritizing your bills ensures that the most essential expenses—like housing and daily necessities—are covered first, allowing you to navigate tough times with confidence. Here’s a simple guide to help you focus on what matters most (and read the full article to get even more details.)  - Food and Groceries - Ensuring you and your household have enough to eat is a fundamental necessity. Prioritize setting aside a portion of your budget for groceries before addressing other expenses.Â
- Housing - Keeping a roof over your head should be another top priority. Whether you rent or own your home, missing payments can lead to profound consequences, including eviction or foreclosure and damage your credit, which can have long-lasting effects.
- Utilities - Essential utilities such as electricity, water, and heating should be paid to maintain a safe and comfortable living environment.
- Transportation - Reliable transportation is crucial for getting to work and handling daily responsibilities. Be sure to allocate funds for car payments, public transportation costs, or other necessary commuting expenses.
- Insurance Premiums - Health, auto, and home insurance provide financial protection in emergencies and should remain a top consideration. While insurance premiums can feel like an unnecessary expense, not having coverage can be even more costly.
- Minimum Credit Card Debt Payments - Debt payments, such as credit card debt, medical bills, and personal loans, should still be addressed, but they often fall lower on the priority list compared to necessities like housing and food. Like housing payments, there can be significant negative effects if you don’t take care of these obligations.
Everyone’s financial situation is different, but the keys are to tackle things one step at a time, stay informed, and seek support when needed. Remember, you’re not facing this alone—help is available, and every step forward brings you closer to financial stability.
